Peer-reviewed review article on real-world data from the N-NOSE nematode cancer test published in an international scientific journal

2024.11.15

The international biomedical journal Biomedicines has just published a peer-reviewed review article* on data showing the effectiveness of N-NOSE in the real world.

N-NOSE Proves Effective for Early Cancer Detection: Real-World Data from Third-Party Medical Institutions. Nakajo N., et al., Biomedicines, 12, 2546 ( 2024)

This review explains the effectiveness and accuracy of N-NOSE based on real-world data obtained from independent, multicenter, third-party medical institutions.

The main points of the review are as follows;

1)Improvement of cancer detection rates

PET screening triggered by N-NOSE successfully improved the cancer detection rate to 2.96% compared to conventional PET screening (1.31%).

2)High positive predictive value (PPV)

The apparent PPV without considering the sensitivity of PET/CT was 2.09%. However, as a result of adjusting for the sensitivity of PET/CT, the true PPV of N-NOSE reached approximately 11.7%, which represents a 14.6-fold screening efficiency compared to the cancer incidence in the general population (approximately 0.8%).

This review article conveys that , based on real-world data from Japan, the nematode cancer test is cost-effective and minimally invasive, and therefore holds great potential as a primary cancer screening tool for asymptomatic individuals.

*What is peer review

“Peer review” refers to the process in which multiple independent third-party experts with an international perspective rigorously evaluate a research paper to determine its suitability for publication before it is released. This process, commonly known as ‘peer review,’ aims to enhance the reliability of the paper by subjecting it to scrutiny from experts. It has been a long-established system in the scientific community. A peer-reviewed paper is one that has passed through this rigorous and objective evaluation by specialists before being published.
