The 21st Annual Meeting of the International Forum on Science and Technology for the Future of
Humanity (STS forum) was held at the Kyoto International Conference Center from October 6 (Sun.) to
October 8 (Tue.), 2024, where experts and Nobel laureates from Japan and abroad discussed issues
common to all humanity. From a variety of scientific perspectives, the participants actively discussed
the challenges and directions of science and technology for the future of humankind, transcending
national borders and fields of expertise.
We, HIROTSU BIO SCIENCE Inc., participated in the STS forum for the second year in a row. Eric di
Luccio, CTO of our company, participated in the concurrent session titled “Nurturing Innovation-based
Startups.” He delivered a speech on N-NOSE cancer screening test, and emphasized the need to sustain,
promote, and accelerate innovation to nurture start-ups. He also emphasized the need for synergy
between rapidly evolving innovation and the regulatory environment and led a discussion on effective
ways to de-risk the innovation and promote investment across borders.
At the CTO meeting with a Nobel laureate, he spoke about N-NOSE as an example of transformative
technology, and discussed how it can dramatically improve healthcare worldwide, providing real
benefits for underserved populations. The discussions covered approaches to reduce the use of natural
resources and infrastructure as online services and AI rapidly grow, and strategies for developing data
and computer centers that aim for a net zero carbon footprint, while supporting local communities.
In addition to these sessions, Senior Researcher Masayo Morishita participated in a business lunch on
the “Formation of Global Advanced Science and Technology Ecosystem Project: New IndustryGovernment-Academia Collaborative Model in Hiroshima” promoted by Hiroshima University,
Higashihiroshima City, and Micron Memory Japan. She had a meaningful exchange of opinions on the
importance of semiconductors essential for AI, which was a hot topic throughout the whole STS forum,
semiconductor human resource development, and consortiums.
